A tribute film and memorial book, made from everyone's memories
Instead of one person scrambling through photos the week of the funeral, invite family and friends to share what they remember. Each person answers a different question, so the film covers a whole life: where they began, who they were, what they loved and what they taught us.
How it works
- Create the event in the app with their name and a photo, and a date for memories to be in by.
- Invite everyone who knew them by email from your contacts, or share one link in a group chat. You'll see who has opened, joined and shared.
- Everyone answers a different question with a video message, a voice note, photos, a story or a quote, from the app or any web browser. No account needed.
- Make the film and the book. The moments are chosen and ordered into chapters of a life. Preview free, change anything, re-make it as more memories arrive.
- Unlock and share the full HD film for the service and the photo book, and order printed copies.
The kind of questions people are asked
- Tell us a story about Joan that still makes you laugh.
- Share a favourite photo of Joan and tell us what was happening.
- If you had one word for Joan, what would it be, and why?
- What would you want to say to Joan if you could?
- What's your first memory of Joan?
- What was Joan like as a child?
- What was Joan like when they were young and just starting out?
- How did you and Joan meet?
Each person is offered three, chosen for how they knew Joan. Most can only be answered once, so the stories don't repeat. More question ideas.
When to start
Start as soon as you can: even two or three days before the service is enough for most families. Set the deadline a day before you need the film.
Tips
- Ask old friends and colleagues as well as family: they hold the stories family never heard.
- Encourage short voice notes from people who don't want to be on camera.
- Ask for original photos, not screenshots, so they print sharply in the book.
- Test the film on the venue's screen before the day, and keep a copy on a USB stick.
Questions
How much does a memorial tribute video cost with Reel4Life?
It's free to set up, gather memories and preview. Unlocking the full HD film and the photo book is A$14.99 (about US$10) for the event. Contributors never pay.
Do people need the app to contribute?
No. They can add videos, voice notes, photos and stories from the invite link in any web browser, without an account.
How long should a funeral tribute video be?
Three to eight minutes suits most services. Reel4Life makes 3, 5, 8 or 12 minute films, and you can change the length and re-make it.
Can we play it at the service?
Yes. Play it full screen and AirPlay or Chromecast it, use a cable, or give the venue the file.
